Great George Street

8-10 Great George Street was originally constructed in the 1930s as the head office for Middlesex County Council, and until recently the building was the London headquarters for the Liberal Democrat Party.

Following the granting of planning permission from the City of Westminster in 2019 for the development of a hotel with restaurant & bar, gym and leisure facilities, and working within the envelope of the existing hotel planning consent, Studio Moren has designed a concept for a 110 bedroom luxury hotel. This includes a swimming pool and leisure facilities at lower ground floor, meeting rooms and privatedining rooms at lower ground floor and a restaurant and lounge/bar at ground floor.

Additionally, we have designed a proposal which illustrates the potential for an 83 unit serviced apartment scheme, also with a swimming pool and leisure facilities at lower ground floor and the inclusion of a residents lounge and roof terrace on the eighth floor.

The historical heritage context of Great George Street provided inspiration for the design scheme; decorative forms and feature metal elements are translated into a contemporary combination of carved materials and curved forms. It's historical residential origin is expressed through the motifs of textiles, tiling and joinery metal detailing.
