Aloft & Element Tobacco Dock
Tobacco Dock in East London has a colourful history spanning back to 1811 when it was originally built as a major shipping dock and warehouse. Working with Al Mubarakia we secured planning consent to redevelop the site to include a hotel and aparthotel with a destination bar, restaurant and cafe opening out to a new piazza.
The design sensitively responds to the surrounding context, and features an atrium providing a visual link from the dock entrance across the piazza to St. George’s Church.
In keeping with the history of the site, the contemporary interior design references the dock building’s original use as a warehouse distributing tobacco, wines, wool, and animal skins.
