Studio Moren's fabulous five shortlisted for Brit List Awards 

We are thrilled to announce Studio Moren's five finalists for the Brit List 2023 by Hotel Designs. The Brit List Awards campaign aims to celebrate the leading interior designers, architects, hoteliers and suppliers operating in Britain.

Adriane Maramo, Junior Interior Designer - shortlisted for Rising Star

Since joining Studio Moren in 2021 as a junior designer, Adriane has become a key member of the team. She has worked on a wide variety of projects including several 5-star hotels both in the UK and internationally, brand prototype development projects as well as co-living and PRS amenity space schemes. Demonstrating versatility from initial concept to detailed technical documentation, Adriane is recognised for her keen eye for aesthetics and all-encompassing design flair.

In addition to her creative contributions, Adriane is part of a small group in the team who keep the studio's library up to date, organises suppliers’ visits, CPDs and shares new products with the team. Additionally, Adriane has become instrumental in our sustainability research and development, sourcing, querying and building the palette of sustainable materials used within the studio. In her current project, she is developing a scheme which includes carbon-capture paint, cork flooring and paper-based sheet surfaces for joinery. Adriane prides herself on building great relationships with other team members, suppliers and clients, something that is an intrinsic part of the culture of Studio Moren.

Jonathan Comfort, Senior Architect - shortlisted for Architect of the Year

Since joining the studio in 2019, Jonathan has been involved in a number of high profile hotel projects. He has recently led the complete fit-out of the recently opened 1 Hotel in Mayfair and is currently overseeing the construction of a 400-bed TRIBE hotel, and a 100 key boutique Spa Hotel and Luxury Apartments new build on the Noss on Dart Marina in Devon.

Jonathan has become a key member of the team and has organised several staff training days for senior members of the construction delivery teams and continues to research areas of learning for future courses and events.

He also plays a key part in nurturing the company culture through training and social events.

Jonathan has over 10 years’ experience working in the boutique and luxury end of the hospitality sector and has experience of design from concept through to completion. He prides himself on building great working relationships with all consultants, clients and team members, something that he believes is vital to successful collaboration on all stages of the project.

Kate Sandle, Associate - shortlisted for Architect of the Year

Kate, has over twenty years of hotel design experience having joined Studio Moren in 2001. She has delivered multiple complex schemes both in the new build and refurbishment sectors, recently overseeing Studio Moren's role as executive interior architects for the fit-out of art'otel London Battersea Power Station. Leading major developments such as The Guardsman in Westminster, Hampton by Hilton Waterloo, and a boutique hotel in Camden, Kate has consistently demonstrated the value and depth of her experience in delivering complex and distinctive projects.

A master of restoration projects, Kate's portfolio boasts the restoration of Beaumont Estate, the redevelopment of the Grade II listed Great Northern Hotel, and the refurbishment of The Ampersand in South Kensington. Her career's focal point has been the technical and construction stages, where she collaborates seamlessly with clients, project architects, consultant teams, and contractors.

Rebeca Aguilera, Associate - shortlisted for Architect of the Year

Rebeca's architectural journey began in her native Spain and evolved into a global exploration, marked by an enriching Erasmus scholar year in Milan. Internships in Rome and Rotterdam exposed her to diverse design philosophies, fostering adaptability crucial to her current role as an Associate at Studio Moren. She has made her mark as a talented designer working primarily on hospitality projects from conception to planning stages.  

At Studio Moren, Rebeca has led transformative projects, notably the Ditton Park Manor conversion and the mixed-use development at 1-4 Shakespeare Road. Her commitment to elevating design standards is evident in her leadership within the planning team, organising collaborative design reviews that promote innovation and mentorship.

Tom Thorogood, Co-Head of Interiors - shortlisted for Interior Designer of the Year

Tom joined the studio in 2021 as an Associate and quickly rose to become Co-Head of Interiors. Tom has over 17 years’ experience in the luxury hotel, resort, residential, cruise ship and retail sectors. Leading projects in the UK and internationally, he has worked with a range of large well-known hotel operators and independent brands.

He is involved in all aspects of the design, from concept through to completion. He is currently working on the refurbishment of the opulent Welcombe Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon, the chic Hyde Paradox Hotel in London City, a luxurious 5-star Luxury Resort in Portugal and 5-star luxury hotel in Nigeria.
