Dexter Moren awarded for outstanding contribution to hospitality design

We are proud to announce that Studio Moren’s founding partner Dexter Moren is the recipient of this year’s AHEAD Europe Outstanding Contribution Award. Organised by Sleeper Media, AHEAD – the Awards for Hospitality Experience and Design – celebrates the achievements of those shaping the hospitality industry across Asia, the Americas, MEA and Europe.

The Outstanding Contribution Award acknowledges the achievements of its honourees to the world of hospitality design, the sector in which Dexter has passionately devoted most of his career. The recognition crowns an especially important year for Dexter and the practice he established in 1992, having just celebrated its 30th anniversary and a simultaneous rebrand as Studio Moren.

I am honoured to receive this award which I would like to share with the whole Studio Moren team and thank our clients who have made it possible.

Dexter Moren Founding Partner at Studio Moren

Starting out with just three people, the practice is now 70 strong and has established a world-renowned reputation as a leader in hospitality architecture and interior design. Studio Moren’s success is built on long-lasting client relationships – a testament to the creativity, collaborative spirit and expertise that has been nurtured and guided by Dexter through the years. Whilst most of that talent has remained within the practice, Studio Moren’s influence on the wider hospitality sector can be felt far and wide, with several of those apprenticed now holding senior hotel brand positions, as well as a celebrity TV interior design guru in Melbourne Australia.

The Outstanding Contribution Award has also proved yet another riposte to early criticism from the RIBA chartered practice audit that Studio Moren was too exposed to one sector and needed to diversify. Dexter’s foresight and commitment to the hospitality sector has played into the practice’s hands; hospitality has not only thrived but become an integral part of much more than just hotels, enabling Studio Moren’s growth into sectors such as co-living, co-working, student and later living, ironically attracting the diverse client base the RIBA always advised!

"AHEAD and Sleeper were delighted to award Dexter with the Outstanding Contribution Award for his achievements in hospitality design. Dexter’s people-first approach – both in his projects and the way in which he runs his studio – have served him well, resulting in a vast portfolio of hotels that not only look good but operate efficiently too. A well-deserved accolade to celebrate designing to a consistently high standard for three decades. Congratulations!"
